Tapping and scanning
How it works on iPhone and Android, and what to do if tapping fails.
The other person does not need an app. Tapping uses the phone's built-in NFC reader.
iPhone
From the iPhone XS onwards, iPhones read NFC automatically. The screen must be on and unlocked. Hold the card against the top of the back, near the camera. A notification appears; tap it to open the profile.
Android
On most Android phones NFC is on by default. Hold the card against the middle of the back. Nothing happens? Turn on NFC in Settings → Connections → NFC.
Tapping doesn't work?
- Move the card slowly across the back: every phone has its reader in a different place.
- A thick case, or a card stored in the case, can block the chip.
- Is there a QR code on your card? Let the other person scan it with their camera. The QR code opens the same profile as the chip.
